I have lived in Cheshire East for 15 years, mostly in Alsager, with a few years in Congleton. I want Cheshire East to properly address our two huge emergencies – climate and biodiversity.

I would push to:

(1) save us all heartache, misery, and hard cash by copying Cheshire West and Chester Council and embedding 20's Plenty.

(2) prevent development of Danes Moss and all other peatlands, as rare environments which are huge carbon stores which can continue removing CO2 from the air for free. We should preserve our peatlands in the way that we’d like Brazilians to preserve Amazonian rainforest.

(3) treat HS2 as the white elephant cash cow that it actually is. As a Cheshire East councillor, I'd fight to prevent it from scarring our countryside and work to reduce people's need for travel and to develop alternatives to car ownership.

Hilary RobinsonHilary Robinson

I've been a Green Party member for many years, and represented the party on Alsager Town Council for 8 years, including a year as Chairman. I have taken a keen interest in environmental issues all my life, and believes the situation is now critical.

I have lived in Alsager for 45 years. My children attended local schools. I worked as a software developer for International Computers Limited, and since retirement have been involved in various local groups, often involving gardening. I am also a Waste Reduction Volunteer for the Cheshire East.

Liam BerginLiam Bergin

I’m 51 and retired due to the ill health of having a brain tumour which leads to a great deal of reflection on the world as it is today. I remember that my teenage children were once safe to play in the local rivers and meres and now they wouldn’t be able to due to pollution.

My former job was head of catering at the university of Manchester and I realised how much waste we got through and it became a personal mission to reduce our use of single use plastic and make my supply lines more local by working with local food charities. I continue all this in my personal life now and believe passionately that even small changes can have a big impact. I hope I can encourage you to vote Green for a cleaner, safer future for all of our families.

Unfortunately Liam passed away just before the election. Cheshire East Greens were lucky to have had Liam as a member and as a candidate and both him and his support for the Green Party will be sadly missed….

I grew up in North-Cheshire and have lived in the Chelford Ward for 18 years. Currently a parish councillor, I am committed to protecting natural habitats, supporting local food producers, and promoting clean energy solutions such as wind, solar, and heat-pumps. These technologies along with improved insulation can reduce both our energy and council tax bills.

I have valuable experience in business, having created and run a successful company until retiring six years ago. I aim to use my problem-solving and leadership skills to bring new and fresh ideas to Cheshire East and work towards a sustainable future for all.

Congleton East - 3 seats

Lisa MillerLisa Miller

I'm a mother of two children and work as a Critical Care Nurse. I'm used to being an advocate for people through my line of work. I have a very keen interest in conservation and so run 'Congleton Plant Swap and Gardening for Wildlife' and rescue hedgehogs.

My drive for standing is to promote health and well-being of the community, and represent the concerns of all residents, to the best of my ability. Residents are weary of the loss of green space in Congleton, so I would campaign hard to protect these. Also,I would campaign hard for the Congleton Household and Recycling Centre to be reinstated. I would be very proud to represent the residents of Congleton East.

Ian MumfordIan Mumford

I grew up in Crewe and worked in Rail House computing department in the 1980s then moved to Nottingham. A few years ago I returned to Crewe and work part time as a building surveyor. I was in the Labour Party for a long time until the illegal invasion of Iraq, which prompted me to join the Green Party. I am standing in the CEC election because I think we need to seriously take the environment into consideration with planning applications and actually enforce the conditions that are agreed with developers.

Melanie EnglishMelanie English

I've lived in Crewe for 18 years. I am self-employed, married and have 4 children.

As a doula, I work with brand new families, in Cheshire and neighbouring counties. The future and the state of our local environment and the world for mine and my client's children is a constant frame of reference to my work and personal life.

In my past, I've worked for the police and charities. I bring that knowledge of how the public sector works and a commitment to bring practical sustainability, compassion, and connection (to each other and to our environment) to the table.

Gareth WoodsGareth Woods

As a keen person to make a better change for our community, I share the views of the Green Party manifesto. I personally believe in a balance between growing our community that creates a synergy with green spaces that everyone can enjoy. I have lived in Crewe for over 10 years, I have taken part in campaigning for better broadband and also an active voice to save green spaces. I have volunteered for the Cinnamon trust locally in Crewe, I like to keep our streets and parks tidy and I love to find great walking routes.

Now is the time for change! I have seen the damage caused by the successive governments over the last 15 years and it has demonstrated that the three major parties Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat have lost their way and the two party system is not working. I am concerned that the public have lost their confidence in the trust, professionalism, integrity and honesty needed in politics to make things happen for the right reasons. It is now time for me to give the opportunity to voters to select The Green Party in Cheshire East representing my home district of Dane Valley.

Issues such as traffic movement in Holmes Chapel, Speeding and poor roads in Goostrey, support for Farming, and adequate public services in Dane Valley need to be given the priority they deserve.

Andrew WheatstoneAndrew Wheatstone

I live in Lyme Green, working in education as a teacher and now as a teaching assistant for over 30 years. I've served as a parish councillor and advocates for a strong community voice in local government.

I believe in protecting and managing our beautiful countryside and tackling pollution in our air and waterways. Public transport should be improved and made more affordable. New housing should be both sustainable and meet local needs, whilst existing homes should be made more energy efficient. New development should utilise brownfield sites wherever possible. I strongly oppose development on Danes Moss.

Te Ata BrowneTe Ata Browne

Te Ata's extensive involvement in local government and the Green Party highlights her commitment to promoting sustainability and creating a fairer society. With a diverse range of ideas and perspectives, she can offer fresh insights to tackle local issues effectively. Her decision to raise her family in the area demonstrates her dedication to the community, and her love for the area can motivate her to work towards representing its residents effectively. Te Ata's experience, vision, and passion make her a strong candidate for the task of representing the community and contributing to building a greener and more equitable future.

Amanda IremongerAmanda Iremonger

Amanda Iremonger was born in Cheshire and now lives in Knutsford where she relishes the opportunity to give back to her community. She is co-secretary of the Green Party locally, and volunteers for Citizens Advice and for an addiction recovery service. Amanda has been campaigning ahead of the May elections and is finding that plans to build houses on ancient woodlands and local wildlife sites are causing great concern. She says “It’s time to transform Cheshire East towards a more sustainable future and our Council’s planning needs to reflect this. In addition, from my work in Citizens Advice, I know we need to do more for those struggling with this government’s hostile attitude to those in need."

Macclesfield Central - 2 seats

John KnightJohn Knight

John Knight, local campaigner and the Green Party's candidate for Macclesfield Central in the Borough and Town Council elections on Thursday 4th May, urged voters to vote Green if they want to see anything like real green policies from Cheshire East Council.

The Green Party realises that the Biodiversity Emergency is as important as the Climate Emergency” he says, "whilst other parties seem to have only just got on the train – and the wrong one, with HS2 – at the last moment."

"They still think that both as a country and as a county, we can expand our way out of this. The Green Party realises that unless we come up with another couple of planets, we have to do less in future, but make different choices about what we do; so that we radically cut emissions and allow Nature to grow back, recover, remove CO2 naturally and still provide us with food, work and peace of mind."

"It can’t do that if the Council builds unnecessary roads - like the Poynton Bypass and the proposed Congleton Road/London Road link; or if it allows big unnecessary housing developments run by overseas companies such as the one threatening Danes Moss, or other housing developments on green spaces, such as Chelford Road and Gaw End; or if it allows HS2 to tear through the countryside of Cheshire East – for a train that nobody can use till 2040 and which could see Macclesfield actually lose direct London services - after which we should have built a society where nobody needs to do so much travelling."

"Also, despite huge public support, Cheshire East Council has failed to deliver “Twenty’s Plenty”, where the default speed limit in all urban areas would be reduced from 30 to 20mph. Leaving the decision to town and parish councils leaves us in a sort of “halfway house”, where no-one driving through the borough is sure from one minute to the next what the legal limit is."

"The public recognise this, and if the public want Cheshire East to have a Green conscience, they know that only Green councillors will hold whichever parties are in charge to account on their environmental promises. We have candidates standing in most areas of Macclesfield, so this year, please make a difference - vote Green - Save our Green Space."

Macclesfield East - 1 seat

Lindy BrettLindy Brett

I have lived in Macclesfield East ward for over twenty years, my children attended local schools. I have been active in the Green Party for rather longer, and was a teacher and an astronomer, also a school governor for Macclesfield High School. I am deeply concerned about the threats of pollution, climate change, and loss of species. We need Cheshire East to protect us and the wild places against future shocks. We need to become resilient and build a healthy caring world.

I would fight for better insulated housing; building on brownfield sites; better cheaper public transport; clean air and waterways; the protection of peatland like Danes Moss; supporting repair and re-use of our household machines, and increased recycling.

Macclesfield South - 2 seats

John PeckhamJohn Peckham

I’m not a natural politician, I don’t seek power, but I have been motivated to do something by the catastrophic mess that today’s leaders are making of protecting our future. The Green Party represents wisdom, integrity and a welcome break from the corruption and self-interest that we hear about in Westminster. I believe in planet and people before profit and power, in protecting and enhancing our natural environment and urgently reducing our use of scarce resources including fossil fuels. Protecting the Earth is our future and that of our children and grandchildren, the time for change is now!

Macclesfield Tytherington - 2 seats

Walter HoustonWalter Houston

I am a retired minister of religion and lecturer, still active in ministry and in research. I live in Macclesfield's Tytherington ward. For relaxation I read, walk and cycle and garden. I am active in the Green Party because I keep a close eye on politics and I can see that it is the only political party that understands the ruin we are bringing on the natural world and the social injustice that is linked with that, and has a well-worked out plan for dealing with both. That is why I am standing for the party in my own ward.

David MayersDavid Mayers

I am a retired teacher passionate about the environment and sustainability. I live in Tytherington ward, and want to ensure that all its residents have access to reliable and cheap public transport and safe opportunities for active travel. We are subjected to increasing and damaging levels of air pollution from rising numbers of vehicles. We urgently need fewer vehicles and lower speeds, preferably 20mph in all residential and shopping streets.

I believe that the Green Party can transform local politics; and on a national and global scale begin the economic changes we need to save us from the imminent climate disaster.

Macclesfield West and Ivy - 2 seats

Middlewich - 3 seats

Cerys JonesCerys Jones

The Green Party is the only political party taking the threat of climate change, loss of our green spaces and protecting biodiversity seriously enough. Saving and increasing our green spaces and prioritising community is particularly important in Middlewich, which is seeing considerable housing development without proper consideration of the impact on existing residents and nature, and without much needed improvement to public services.

I would campaign for more efficient, affordable public transport, better insulated housing and fight for sustainability and biodiversity to be at the forefront of all of Cheshire East's planning. I have lived in Cheshire East for 25 years of my life, 23 of those in Middlewich.  I'm a mum of two and work part time as a solicitor, representing severely injured military service personnel and veterans. I am motivated by advocating for others. In my professional life I get to grips with complex issues, support vulnerable people through the litigation process, problem solve, negotiate and budget, all of which I can utilise to proficiently represent Middlewich and Cheshire East Residents.

In my spare time I enjoy fundraising for charity and recently organised a sponsored cold water swim. I enjoy comedy gigs, walking, swimming and am learning to grow my own fruit and veg.

I would urge Middlewich residents to insist Cheshire East prioritise green conscious policies by using just one of their votes to vote Green on 4th May.

Kim HeyesKim Heyes

I have lived in and around Nantwich on and off since I was around 10 years old, and my family history can be traced back in the town to the 1600’s! I have six children who are mostly grown up, with my youngest about to go to Malbank in September.

I work at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Senior Lecturer of Health and Social Justice in the Department of Nursing. I am also a Trustee (volunteer) for the wonderful charity PSS, based in Liverpool.

I believe that Cheshire East Council does not value its citizens and needs a change. Vote Green for community and social action!

CEC is planning to remove at least 44 trees from Poynton Pool with another 37 trees at risk of removal. Poynton Pool is a Site of Biological Importance and also a Habitat of Principal Importance. The reason given for the removal is a 1 in 10,000 chance of the Pool flooding from a 2km² catchment area. There is absolutely no logical rationale for doing this, and so I am standing to protect the Pool and its trees.

In addition, the idea that Danes Moss might be developed by CEC is abhorrent, and we must do everything we can to save it.

I fundamentally believe in '20s plenty', and I would look to persuade CEC to change its mind and provide residents with safer streets.

I stood for the Green Party in the parliamentary elections for Macclesfield in 2017 and 2019. Professionally, I teach the barristers and solicitors of the future. I am also a trustee of Cre8 in Macclesfield.

Poynton West and Adlington - 2 seats

Kathy BoothKathy Booth

I have been a Green Party member for about 10 years now, but I have been a crusader for most of my life when it comes to the environment and animal welfare.

My aim is to support the campaign against the removal of the trees at Poynton Pool which is a Site of Biological Importance and also a Habitat of Principal Importance. The reason given by Cheshire East Council for their removal is that there is a '1 in 10,000' chance of the Pool flooding from a 2km² catchment area. There is insufficient rationale for doing this, and so I am standing to protect the Pool and its trees.

I believe that '20s plenty', and I would look to challenge Cheshire East Council to provide Poynton residents with safer roads. I intend to re-start the campaign for traffic calming measures on the back lanes of Poynton and Adlington, which was previously rejected by the council without any discussions with residents, despite having received over 100 objections against the withdrawal of these safety measures. Safer roads for all, means a safer community.

I'm standing as a candidate for the Green Party because I support its many policies, on environmental issues, and on broader economic and social issues. I appreciate the calibre of our leadership and the contribution the party makes, for the better, to our national and local debates and policies. I have Doctorate in Chemistry and 10 years in industry, (UK and Europe), and so I appreciate the science behind the Green Party's environmental policies and understand the processes of manufacturing. Currently, I am a local Vicar and am concerned to care for creation and create better opportunities for all people.

My name is David Manning. I have lived in Norbury for the past 16 years with my wife Jane. I joined the Green Party because I found myself drawn to the party's sustainable policies. I am a committed country man and environmentalist, conservation of wild life, the countryside and sustainable agriculture are very important to me. This passion originates from my parents who were farmers in Wales. I have spent my own career in the manufacturing industry originally at Rolls Royce and Bentley cars and for the past 36 years running a global supply chain consultancy business. I believe that this experience will be a valuable asset enabling practical solutions for the implementation of sustainable green policies.

Green Party Programme for Cheshire East

The Green Party realises that the Biodiversity Emergency is as important as the Climate Emergency, whilst other parties seem to have only just gotten on the train – and the wrong one, with HS2 – at the last moment.

Other parties still think that both as a country and as a county, we can expand our way out of this. The Green Party realises that unless we come up with another couple of planets, we have to do less in future, but make different choices about what we do; so that we radically cut emissions and allow Nature to grow back, recover, remove CO2 naturally and still provide us with food, work, and peace of mind.

It can’t do that if the Council builds unnecessary roads - like the virtually empty Congleton Bypass; or if it allows big unnecessary housing developments run by overseas companies such as the one threatening Danes Moss, or other housing developments like that threatening the rewilded Longridge Wildlife Site in Knutsford; or if it allows HS2 to tear through the countryside of Cheshire East – for a train that nobody can use till 2040 - after which we should have built a society where nobody needs to do much travelling.

The Public recognise this, we are hearing that the public want Cheshire East to have a Green Conscience, and we will be there to do just this.
